Your Treatment Center: It Does Not Have To Go Belly Up

By Jimmy Carmels

Many drug and alcohol treatment centers today see 2016 as being a tough year. A lot of treatment centers got audited in 2015 by insurance companies. A few news reports came out that stated many treatment centers in Florida around the USA were using fraudulent business practices. It is necessary to be 100% honest when dealing with any kind of medical billing or drug treatment.

Many clients that come to your facility will not have good enough insurance to turn a profit for your facility. Many insurance companies are not going to pay you $20,000 to treat someone. Instead, they will give you a much smaller amount. You will often be shocked that you had to pay $25,000 out of pocket and only receive $15,000 in return. A lot of treatment centers today are asking themselves if they can afford to stay open if this continues to happen.

In order to combat any type of close down or bankruptcy, you are going to have to improve your strategy. For starters, it's important to have a powerful marketing strategy. You must have a strong online internet presence and street presence. This means that you will need to have field marketers that knock on doors for you. Make sure that they are building relationships with people that are associated with drug and alcohol addiction in any way, shape or form. You must become close friends with these people in order to see them wanting to work with you. Your business will often receive referrals from people that like you.

Most of your advertising dollars are going down the drain as well. Why is this happening? Simply because most people that call into your facility either have no insurance, Medicaid/Medicare insurance or an HMO policy. It is not easy to find a client that actually works well with your facility. Many treatment centers today feel that the system is not fair. Some treatment centers are giving up altogether on insurance and accepting cash pay only.

It is important to not let the new rules and regulations get you down. In reality, you can have good profits in your treatment center if you plan ahead accordingly. For starters, don't keep in house billers if they are not ICD-10 coding experts. You will fail at getting your claims back in time. Most coders today don't get their treatment centers paid on time. This often leaves business owners angry and frustrated.

Most medical billers today depend on their marketers to get them good clients. Marketers today have to be in the field constantly working with mental health providers and drug and alcohol counselors. It is important to go to a lot of meet and greets with detox facilities as well. You need to become a referral source for people that need treatment. It is now necessary to have your treatment center known to multiple people in the business.
