They perform prescription of medicine and therapy and also administer medicines and other medical care.

In the United States, trained internists are certified by three major bodies, that is, BCIM, AOBIM, and ABIM. Certification is based on many aspects including the attitudes, skills, and knowledge of the individual. Once certified, the internist is given a license to practice in the specific state the license is issued. Licenses need to be renewed regularly to remain valid.

Making a good internists demands for a lot of abilities and skills. There is a lot of pressure from work when working. The work environment is usually confined to a medical setting.
