Facts Relating To Breast Augmentation Toronto Residents May Wish To Know

Medicine has made great strides in the field of cosmetic surgery. Breast augmentation (or simply mammoplasty), is one of the cosmetic procedures that continue to gain popularity exponentially. In this procedure, synthetic substances are used to increase the size of one or both breasts. There are a number of important things relating to breast augmentation Toronto women need to know if they intend to undergo the surgery.

There are a number of reasons for having the surgery. Commonly, women choose to have the procedure so as to achieve more fullness and better symmetry on both sides. Persons that have just been through pregnancy or those that have had excessive weight loss may notice some asymmetry in their breasts. Small adjustments may be done to restore normalcy. Girls with developmental anomalies and persons intending to undergo sex change have also been beneficiaries.

There are two main types of implants used in the procedure. In both types, there are an outer shell of silicon rubber. In the first type of implant, this shell is filled with elastic gel to give it a more natural consistency. Gel implants have the disadvantage of requiring the use of large incisions. The other type is the saline implant. This type is more malleable and allows for the use of smaller incisions.

The surgery is typically performed under general anaesthesia. The incision is made on the area just below the breast. Alternatively, the area of interest may be approached through the inferior part of the areola or through the armpit. The incision is used to create a pocket to accommodate the implant. As soon as placement and orientation is done, the opening is closed surgically.

Bleeding and infections are the commonly reported complications but the rate at which they occur is fairly low. There have been reports in various quarters that mammoplasty is a cause of cancer. Studies have revealed that this is not true. The only cause for concern should be the fact that visualising early malignancies is a bit difficult in the presence of implants hence intervention may be delayed.

Recovery takes a few days to a couple of weeks. Many surgeons will recommend that one avoids strenuous activity as much as possible. The breast should be handled with caution for not less than a month to reduce the risk of wound breakdown. If everything is done in accordance to all the guidelines, the results will be very rewarding.

It should be understood that results are not uniform across the board. Whereas some clients report of impressive results others regret undergoing the transformation. These differences are the result of a number of factors such as surgical skill, type of implant used, age and the long term effect of gravity. Gravity causes sagging of implants over time and corrective procedures may be required.

Having a positive attitude is central to getting good results. Self-confidence ensures that one feels good about themselves irrespective of the outcome. This is in contrast to low self-esteem where numerous repeat procedures have to be undertaken due to the demands of an unsatisfied client.
