Find Atlanta Skin Allergy Relief

By Adam G. Trettin

A lot of people do not bother seeing the doctor for help during the allergy season. Typically, folks will take over the counter medicines without enough information about how they can effect their health. They also lack the knowledge to make choices about medications that are right for them. For those living in Atlanta skin allergies can cause them to use medications that are over the counter.

There are a number of different medicines that are available over the counter or by prescription. It is best to seek the help of a medical professional to get the medicine that will correctly treat your symptoms. There are so many OTC allergy medications available that it is difficult for the consumer to make an informed decision when visiting the drug store.

It is important to know which capsules, nasal sprays, or gel tabs are safe to take. This is especially true for those who have other medical conditions that put them at risk for complications from OTC remedies. For the individual who is taking prescribed medication, there can be serious consequences if they also take OTC allergy meds.

Many people do not take the time to ask their doctor about the right medications to take for their specific allergy because OTCs are so availability. The reality is that these medicines treat only basic allergy symptoms. The over the counter meds do nothing to relieve inflammation that causes the allergy symptoms. The prescription medications relieve more symptoms and do not cause drowsiness.

The nasal sprays used as decongestants are often overused because they lack the effectiveness of the prescribe sprays. The prescription sprays provide faster relief so they are not typically used longer than necessary. Allergy shots are more effective than the remedies purchased over the counter. They may be more expensive, but they have long term effects.

The therapy that is very common is a decongestant and antihistamines. These usually are available in nasal sprays and quickly relieve stuffy nose caused by inflammation. Many of the OTC sprays make folks drowsy when prescription nasal sprays do not. Eye drops that relieve itchy eyes also have an antihistamine in them.

Blood tests are used to provide information about a persons current allergies. However, a skin test can offer more precise information about the persons allergies. It is vital that people are armed with the right information so they can select the treatment that is right for their needs. It is a good idea to check with your physician prior to starting any treatment with OTCs
